This is the film about the films, showing how the village documentarians were chosen, workshopped, and then returned home to become storytellers in their own right.
As we watch the novice filmmakers take possession of their cameras, and skills. We are forced to discard many stereotypes and preconceptions about the isolation and backwardness of rural people, even while we realize the struggles of their lives in post-collectivist China.
